Repost from February 2017
I joyfully received this 5-Star review by Susan Sewell of Readers' Favorite for Book 1 - Purple Sky Survivalist - Growing Up a Victim of Illusions. "A young girl's understanding of how normal families function is challenged in the moving memoir, Purple Sky Survivalist: Growing Up a Victim of Illusions, Survivalist to Thrivalist Volume 1 by Deborah Kinisky. As a small child, Deborah felt that she and her older brother, Ryan, were unloved and tolerated by their parents. With their father always running from the law, they were continually being uprooted and moving to a new location, adding to their instability. Together, the two siblings struggled to overcome neglect and rejection until Ryan reached his teens; then Deborah was left to face the world alone. Having parents who were swingers, the lines of propriety were blurred, and with her brother no longer her champion, Deborah experienced incidents that were physically and emotionally degrading. Although these occurrences always left her feeling victimized and worthless, she believed she was the one with a problem. Because of her family's lifestyle, she had little concept of what was socially acceptable and what was perverted. When things became unbearable, a surprising event transformed her life, turning her focus away from her misery and giving her a purpose. It was the miracle of unconditional love, and because of this gift, Deborah resolved to make a better life for herself. But with her warped history, can Deborah remove the colored veil and see what is an illusion and what is real? Will she ever be able to make a break for freedom? Purple Sky Survivalist by Deborah Kinisky is a heart-wrenching and moving memoir. The account is eloquent and flows well for a personal narrative. Her story presents a candid glimpse of a child's perception of their world; it shows how those who are in charge of them are instrumental in the formation of their views of human and social interaction. This awe-inspiring personal account superbly depicts how a glimmer of light shining in the darkest moments of life can redirect and transform a person's life. It is a remarkable testament of fortitude in imperfect circumstances, and portrays the ability to overcome overwhelming obstacles with pure, unconditional love. I recommend this outstanding autobiography to those who love reading real life experiences of personal growth and empowerment. Because of the mild sexual implications, it may be more suitable for those who are young adults and above." I'm so grateful to receive a 5-Star review for the second book in my Trilogy - Survivalist to Thrivalist - One Woman's Journey!
It's in my firm belief that writing about our lives and experiences to share with others is a cathartic and soul healing journey that every human should allow themselves to do, and I'm so blessed that I'm one of those humans who sought out and achieved this goal. It truly healed my heart and soul. Please find below the 5-star review I received and feel free to add your own comments and thoughts if you've read Survivalist to Thrivalist - One Woman's Journey. I truly do appreciate the love and support! Thank YOU! Reviewed By Gisela Dixon for Readers’ Favorite Survivalist to Thrivalist: One Woman's Journey by Deborah Kinisky is part two of a trilogy that is a memoir about Deborah’s life and how she found purpose and meaning in her life to be able to thrive in the world in spite of difficult beginnings and challenging circumstances. In this book, Deborah mainly focuses on describing her life events after she left home at the age of 20 to the age of almost 40. That being said, she has summarized the early years of her childhood, with her mother, her father with his pedophilic tendencies who showed inappropriate and sexualized behavior, her brother, her dysfunctional family, and basically her past of abuse and neglect. The book then describes how she left home with the help of a friend, her experiences with men and relationships, marriage and divorce, her children, working multiple jobs to maintain her family, and mainly how she overcame her early childhood experiences to not only find a way to survive in this world but to thrive and succeed in it. I liked reading Survivalist to Thrivalist a lot and felt that Deborah has written in a direct, straight-from-the-heart style that is easy to read and relatable. Although this book is one of a trilogy, it can be read as a standalone book since there is enough background information provided for the new reader to pick up the story. Another thing I really liked was Deborah’s obvious love and concern for her own children and how she is able to make sure that the trauma and dysfunction from her own parents do not pass down to the next generation. This is hard to do and I appreciated Deborah sharing this journey with us. Overall, this is an excellent book to read, especially for women for whom unfortunately sexual abuse in society or from within the family is all too common and who may find inspiration or hope from Deborah’s story. If anything, the past few years of discovery have taught me how to honor my strong passions and artistic flair for creativity, and thankfully I have a partner in life who’s tolerant of the evolution of my business as an entrepreneur. Running your own business, like anything else can be a rollercoaster of changes and emotions and highs and lows but ultimately in the end, you are the boss, and make the rules. It’s a precious gift that I’m grateful for and gratitude is one key element to a clean bill of mental health! After a childhood and adult life fraught with abuse, neglect, trauma and addictions, it took me 40 years to overcome the limiting beliefs that I was raised with. I finally learned that I housed the potential to create a legacy of something magical in this life and possessed the power within myself to do so through the love of mother nature. Once I loved myself enough to release those negative voices at the back of my head and in my heart to the universe, that’s when I found true love with my partner and it allowed me the confidence to nurture and blossom my life as an entrepreneur. It’s hard to believe that it was over 10 years ago, yet here we are and I’m sharing my progression with you. I do this because it’s my firm belief that everyone deserves to have the epiphanies of their greatness and I’m here to help you with that, through this website and beyond. Ten years ago, when I started out as an entrepreneur, I was an introverted, anxiety ridden, self-conscious woman who didn’t know what networking meant, what women’s empowerment groups were or what having support in my life looked like. All I knew was that in my heart there was an aching needed to get my story of resiliency and strength out to other people so that they knew that they weren’t alone in their struggles. I struggled with “alone” for many years and let me tell you, living your life as a blue sky thrivalist is FAR more rewarding and filled with joy and happiness that you ever dreamed was possible. Isn’t it our responsibility to share that passion for joy and happiness with others?? I thought so, and that’s what’s brought you to my healing path and why we are supposed to connect. So, lets connect. Tell me about you. Where you are on your path? How we can help each other’s growth? I can’t wait to learn more about you! . . . #deborahkinisky #deborahkiniskyphotography #selfloveguide #mentalhealthpractitioner #photographer #naturephotographer #author #motivationalspeaker #newwebsite #books #entrepreneur #services #blueskythrivalistservices #naturalhealth #survivalisttothrivalist #survivalist #thrivalist #wrapyourselfinnature #fashion #blog #mentalhealth #womeninbusiness #empowerment #humanrights #human |
